Safety is crucial – even on holiday
Five years ago, Erik and his partner purchased a CloudCuddle for their youngest son—and they are still extremely happy with it. It gives them the ability to provide Joris (23 years old, 195 cm and 85 kg) with a safe place to sleep during vacations. “A cozy little nook that he loves to crawl into,” his father describes the mobile bed tent.
About five times a year, Joris goes on holiday with his parents—and the CloudCuddle always goes with him. Erik has gained a lot of experience transporting and setting up and taking down the bed tent. “I remember it was a bit of a puzzle in the beginning. But you get the hang of it quickly. Now the CloudCuddle is set up in five to ten minutes. Thanks to the adjustable straps, it fits various types of beds.”
Intensive care
The towering Joris has multiple disabilities. He has the developmental level of a toddler and is on the autism spectrum. What makes his care truly intensive, however, is his frequent epileptic seizures—sometimes several times a day. For this reason, Joris wears a protective helmet during transfers, at home, and while out walking. “We don’t want him to fall and get hurt. Safety is crucial. If Joris has a seizure, someone must always be nearby to intervene. An epileptic seizure can otherwise be life-threatening,” his father explains.
Night-time support
Five days a week, Joris attends a day-care center, where he sometimes sleeps in a height-adjustable bed. At home, he sleeps in a tent bed. A team of caregivers supports the family. “With a personal care budget (PGB), we can arrange care around him. A few times a week, a professional does a night shift at our home so we don’t have to get up. The caregiver monitors him via a baby monitor and Nightwatch, and helps him to the bathroom at night. We have cared for Joris now for 23 years, and to stay strong and keep working, this support is essential.” At all other times, his parents care for Joris themselves—an intensive task. “An outsider probably wouldn’t last 24 hours at first, I think, but we’ve grown into it gradually,” says Joris’s father.
Trial week
Five years ago, Erik discovered the CloudCuddle on social media. To be sure the bed tent was suitable for Joris, they requested a trial week first—and it was an immediate success. “On holiday, we bring Joris’s favorite cuddly toys. That makes sleeping familiar right away. Joris gets into the CloudCuddle without any trouble. He feels safe. Even at 1.95 meters he fits in comfortably.”
On holiday
Even after five years of use, the CloudCuddle still performs well. “We’ve ordered extra sheets so we can quickly zip in a fresh one after an ‘accident.’ We also use an Aerosleep mattress pad—breathable and especially designed for people with epilepsy.” The family always travels by car because of the many additional items required for Joris. “In the past, he slept in our room on holiday—and then we don’t sleep well either. Now he has his own bed in his own little tent in his own room. The CloudCuddle gives us all better sleep on holiday. Absolutely vital!”
