Pilot CloudCuddle Maxx at UZ Gent

In January 2025, UZ Gent was first introduced to CloudCuddle after a child was admitted to the pediatric ward using a CloudCuddle Junior from home.
Following this, Dr Levi Hoste contacted CloudCuddle. This resulted in two demonstrations of the CloudCuddle Maxx for the pediatric team and subsequently a pilot.

Pilot results

The pilot ran from July to November 2025 and was applied in three cases, with an average length of stay of at least one week per patient.
None of the families had prior experience with CloudCuddle.
Overall outcomes were predominantly positive:

Children were calm and showed no signs of panic
Parents experienced increased safety and comfort
The cocoon effect provided visible calm, sometimes lasting throughout the entire day
CloudCuddle offered more freedom of movement compared to alternatives such as restraint or a cage bed

Nurses experienced CloudCuddle as safer than an open bed or a cage bed.
Service and logistics, provided by Human Protection Services, were rated as highly professional and pleasant.

Points of attention and next steps

Several practical improvement points were identified. This feedback is being incorporated into ongoing product development.
UZ Gent sees potential for broader use of CloudCuddle within the pediatric ward as well as recommending it for use in the home setting.
